Cape Chirakman located on the Black sea three miles South of the town of Kavarna – a small town with a population of about 12 thousand inhabitants. Scientists still there is no consensus about the history of the origin of the name of the Cape, however, many are inclined to believe that "Kirkman" means "light", "torch". Perhaps this is because the Cape for a long time serves as a landmark for ships.
The history of Cape Chirakman very interesting: the first settlers came there in the 5th century BC, because Of a strong earthquake, many buildings were destroyed, but, nevertheless, some have survived to the present day. Tourists can admire the ruins of temples, fortifications and other historic buildings. In the seventies of last century, a group under the leadership of Vasil Vasilev found that at the edge of the promontory there was a Church belonging to the period of early Christianity. 500 m from Cape archaeologists discovered a large necropolis, built in the XIV-XVII centuries.
On the Chirakman repeatedly been excavated. Items found: gold and bronze jewelry, amphorae and vessels, weapons, various coins are now kept in the Museum of Kavarna. The abundance of discovered resources suggests that in ancient times there was an active trade with neighboring cities and countries. In 1902 locals found at Cape treasure. At the foot of the Chirakman are caves, where archaeologists have found traces of life of the people of the Neolithic (7-3 thousand years BC).
