The ethnographic Museum was founded in 1910 as the first ethnographic Museum in Croatia. Throughout the existence of the Museum was seven permanent exhibitions. In 1910 and 1919 they were presented in different buildings of the local school.
In 1924 the Museum moved into the former town hall. This is the most beautiful building in the people's square was built in the 14th century in the Gothic style. In it and now houses the Ethnographic Museum. The Museum exposition is devoted mainly to the region of Dalmatia in the first place its trades and crafts, although the collection includes items from other parts of Croatia and neighboring countries.
The Museum contains almost all typical folk costumes and jewellery of the region, both male and female. Traditionally, these suits are extremely complex and quite unique in design. Rich and varied Handicrafts tableware, knitted items, handmade crafts - wood carving, basket-weaving, Shoe. It collected samples of economic activity for almost two centuries.
Interesting part of the exhibition are presented the interiors of houses split of the late 19th - early 20th century. Also the Museum will delight everyone who came fabulous collection of wooden chests with a complex and interesting design.
In short, the Museum is a great place to learn more about the culture and history of Croatia, region of Dalmatia, and to soak up the spirit "of the time". Please pay your attention to the delicate ceramics, carefully and beautifully embroidered folk costumes and reconstructed rooms of typical rural houses.
