Ebensee - Austria city located in the Federal state of Upper Austria, in the Traunviertel region. Ebensee is located in the district of bad Ischl at the height of 443 m above sea level, on the southern shore of lake Traunsee. The regional capital Linz is located 90 km to the North.

To 1253, the Traunviertel region belonged to the Duchy of Styria, while the king Ottokar II had not assigned him to the Austrian Duchy. Ebensee was first mentioned in 1447. From 1607 here begins the production of salt. Historically, the site was chosen due to its abundant forests, the wood of which is used for the production of salt. Under the supervision Woodruff Hans Kals in Ebensee has built a pipeline for the delivery of salt. The pipeline is the oldest in the world, listed as a world heritage site by UNESCO.

In 1943, the Nazis created in the Ebensee concentration camp, codenamed "Cement" as a subsidiary camp of Mauthausen. From November 1943 to may 1945 in the camp were killed 8745 prisoners. In late April 1945, the camp consisted 18437 prisoners. The camp was liberated by American soldiers on may 6, 1945. Due to the extremely high mortality rate, Ebensee is considered one of the worst Nazi concentration camps.

Currently Ebensee attracts many tourists from all over the world. The city is surrounded by three picturesque lakes: the lake, Offensee, Lambussie. The lake is used for boating, and the other two lakes for swimming in the summer. Also, interest is the history Museum Ebensee, telling about the history of the region in the period from 1918 to 1955. Since 1973, hosts the annual festival of non-commercial movies.
