Volgograd microthrombi is the current attraction in Volgograd, unique in its kind. The problem of transportation within the city, which has a greater extent along the river Volga, appeared and demanded solutions at all times. So, in 1913 the then Tsaritsyn became the first County-level city among several provinces, where he built a tram line and launched into operation of this form of transport.

With the growth of the city's population problem of passenger traffic was growing sharper. It could solve the construction of the metro, but the Volgograd did not have the necessary million people, so in the early 70-ies of the last century, the local authorities have any idea of compromise between the metro and the tram. In 1976 the government adopted the decision on construction in Volgograd the light rail, part of the route which would take place underground, in the subway. Construction began in the same year. Moreover, being aware of the future population growth of the city, with the construction of the tunnels made it possible in the future to replace the trams full subway cars with a minimum of alterations.

At the first stage of construction took eight years, and in November of 1984 took place the ceremonial opening of the high-speed tram. And the second stage is continued. For several years a successful exploitation of this idea was picked up by Ukrainian builders in Krivoy Rog. At the end of 2011 opened a second line, originally having solved the technical problem of the shortage of trams with double doors location.

Today Volgograd microthrombi connects the Northern parts of the city centre, has a length of more than 17 miles, 22 stations, of which six are under the ground and made according to the standards of the metro. The annual shipments amount to about 50 million people! Microthrombi is in the list of "Top 12" tram routes in the world!

The decision is now in the construction of the third line, with a length of 7 kilometers, which will continue the route to the southern districts of the city.
