The Cologne city hall is a building of the city hall and is located near the Cologne Cathedral. The most ancient part of the building dates from the first half of the fourteenth century. Town hall combines several architectural styles. For example, a tower height of 60 metres was completed in the Gothic style, its front door was a reflection of the Baroque style, some parts of the building are imitation of Romanesque architecture.

The tower of the city hall decorated with statues made of Sandstone. Among the depicted personalities you can find the most honorable residents who played an important role in the history of Cologne in different time periods. Due to the fact that the material was chosen for a highly durable, all the statues of kings, of nobles, saints suffered greatly. Some figures were produced and placed on the tower in 1995.

At the end of the fourteenth century in the city hall held their meetings representatives of the Hanseatic League, who wanted to form a Confederation to oppose the Danish king Valdemar IV.

The town hall was reconstructed in 1863 through the efforts of architect Julius Carl Raschdorf. Unfortunately, his aim was not the restoration of the historical appearance of the building, and their own ideas about the future structure. During the Second world war the town hall was badly damaged in the bombing raids destroyed many ornaments of stone, sculptures and unique architectural elements. Subsequently conducted a detailed restoration work, thanks to them, hall acquired its original appearance, and all adjustment Raschdorf were completely eliminated.
