The Church of St. Grisogono – aisled Basilica with a semicircular apse in Romanesque style. It is named in honor of Grisogono - Martyr, the patron Saint of Zadar. Near the Church are the remains of a medieval Benedictine monastery, which was completely rebuilt in the 19th century.

The Church and Abbey were built on the site of the ancient market square. According to legend, in the same place was a Church and monastery of St. Anthony. In 1175 the Church was consecrated the first Archbishop of Zadar. Probably the Church was built by the same architects that created the Cathedral of Zadar. Especially beautiful Eastern wall of the Church - there is a graceful colonnade.

The center of the interior decoration of an altar in Baroque style, surrounded by marble statues depicting the patron saints of Zadar. The altar itself was built in 1701, and statues erected in 1717. Sculpture of Saint Simeon, Saint Anastasia, Saint Zoila and St. Grisogono work of the Venetian sculptor of Alvise Tagliapietra were installed in gratitude of the citizens of Zadar for deliverance from the plague of 1632. In the Central part of the main apse are fragments of Roman-Byzantine frescoes.

The bell tower was begun in 1485, and by 1546 it was never completed.

The Church is a very popular monument among the citizens and among tourists. The city takes care of this unique monument and is constantly undertaking restoration works, the latest of which was conducted in 2003-2004.
