Isle Verde Photo: Verde Island

Isle Verde is located in the homonymous Strait that separates the Islands of Luzon and Mindoro. In 1988 in the framework of a European project on the island was founded a small settlement with the use of modern technologies, such as generation of electrical power using solar panels. Since then, the Philippine Tourist Association always includes Verde island in the list of the best marine protected areas of the country. To get here from the island of Luzon is a 45-minute speedboat ride or 25 minutes by ferry from Batangas. Another option is a ferry from Puerto Galera trip, which takes about half an hour.

For decades Verde is a favorite place of recreation for residents of Batangas and Mindoro island and popular tourist dive site. Among the attractions of the island can be called a one-kilometer beach Mahabang Buhangin and the cave Cueva Sitio, tunnels which lead to the neighbouring island. And divers enjoy the clear water with excellent visibility, abundant marine life and these underwater treasures – the shards of porcelain from Spanish Galleons that sank in these places centuries ago. First Galleon sank in 1620, bumping into a reef off the southern coast Verde. The ship is almost nothing left, but at the bottom it is still possible to see the pieces of Chinese porcelain made in the 16th and 17th centuries.

The most popular dive sites – the so-called "Turret" and "Washing Machine", both are suitable only for experienced divers due to strong currents around. The "turret" is a huge reef off the Eastern coast of the island Verde, which narrows as it approaches the surface of the water. A "Washing Machine" consists of several small submarine canyons at depths to 15 meters. The name of the site derives from the features of the flow: water flowing through all the canyons, creates the effect of "the washing machine". In one second, the flow can take you to some of the canyon, and in a second in the other.

Among the inhabitants of the reefs near the island Verde you can find a great wrasses, eagle rays, white tip and blacktip sharks.
