Phra Nakhon Khiri historical Park in Phetchaburi province, located on the hill. Its name means “sacred city on the hill”. Among the locals is more popularly called Khao Wang, which means “city on the hill”.

It was built in 1860 by order of king Mongkut or Rama IV as a place of respite from the bustle of Bangkok. The location of Phra Nakhon Khiri on the hill contributed to the hobby king astronomy.

Buildings at the Phra Nakhon Khiri divided into three groups and are located on the three peaks of the 92-meter hill. In the West the peak you will see the Royal Palace and offices. The Palace is made in a mixed Chinese-European style, now it offers personal belongings Rama IV.

From the Palace is a stone-paved road in the Central part of the historical Park. Here is a large white Chedi (stupa) Phra Thah Chom Phet. According to old records in its base laid the relics of the Buddha Gautama.

The West peak is the Royal temple Wat Phra Kaew, which is an exact copy of the temple in Bangkok, which houses the famous emerald Buddha.

Phra Nakhon Khiri was recognized as a historic Park on August 27, 1979. In the two rooms adjacent to the Palace, since there is a national Museum.

To get to Phra Nakhon Khiri can the stairs leading through the forest, but be careful here: often there are wild monkeys. An alternative option is the funicular, which is especially popular with tour groups and school children.
