National Park mount cook is located near the town of Twizel. The Park was opened in 1953. The Park is a 700 sq. km unimaginably beautiful creations of nature that surround the highest point of New Zealand – mount cook. The height of this peak – 3 754 m above sea level. The top of the mountain has a bizarre shape and very steep slopes. It is covered with snow and firn (compacted snow, an intermediate stage between snow and ice). This mountain sir Edmund Percival Hillary, the first man who conquered Everest – was used as a trainer before his legendary ascent.

However, do not have to be an experienced climber to enjoy the beauty of the Park mount cook. In the reserve several peaks, height of up to 3000 meters. They boldly explore other travellers, who are not indifferent to the creatures of nature. Many tourists here goes Hiking with tents for a few days. There are several day-Hiking trails to reach the most beautiful sightseeing places. The most popular route passes through the hooker Valley, it can be overcome in just four hours. The path to the observation point Kea point will consume even less – about two hours.

Flora and fauna of the Park is very diverse. For example, you can see rare species of parrots – mountain jumping, and rare giant species of Buttercup – the mount cook Lily.

The Park mount cook, on one of the slopes of mount cook is the famous Tasman glacier, which is 29 km and a surface area of 156, 5 sq. km, the Glacier descends in the form of "language" and occupies 40% of the entire Park. It is possible to arrive directly by boat, and even ski inside of it.

The Park is operated by the Department of conservation. Park mount cook was recognized as part of world heritage and protected by UNESCO.
