The fisheries Museum is a branch of the Central Maritime Museum in Gdansk. The Museum is located in Hel, in the former Evangelical Church of saints Peter and Paul, built in the fifteenth century.

The first mention of the Church dates back to 1417 year. It was the parish Church of Hel, which in 1525 was transformed into a Protestant Church. In the late sixteenth century Church tower was destroyed in a terrible fire. Later the Church was rebuilt and served as a Maritime beacon. Gradually, strong storms and waves of the sea washed the slope on which stands the Church. In 1861 the front part of the building together with the tower broke off and fell into the sea. Reconstruction was carried out after two years.

During the Second world war, the Church of saints Peter and Paul suffered greatly, restoration works were completed in 1959. However, by this time in Hel was no need of the Evangelical Church, so the building was adapted for Museum purposes. In 1972 it passed into the possession of the National Maritime Museum in Gdansk, after which it was converted into a fishing Museum.

Permanent exposition of the Museum tells about the history of the Baltic sea, about the origin and development of fisheries in the Gulf of Gdansk, about the history of the Hel Peninsula. In addition, visitors will learn about the current challenges of the marine economy, will meet with difficulties and various aspects of fisheries. Here there is an interesting collection of traditional fishing boats.
