Local history Museum in the city Yelsk today counts for 35 years. It was founded in 1976 on the basis of the Museum of national Glory, which had existed since 1966. Currently, the holdings of the Museum contain more than 3871 items. The total area of the Museum exhibition 103 square meters.

The Museum tells the history of the city. The first exhibition "the Revolution, the civil war, the period of collectivization" tells the story of a difficult the revolutionary years, the first collective farms and collective accomplishments.

The second theme of the exposition: "the Great Patriotic War". Here are some interesting materials on partisan movement, about the crimes of the Nazis, about the liberation of the city from the fascist army. Here are the hall of fame, commemorating the names of the characters, their military awards, photos, personal things.

The Department of nature shows the diversity of the local flora and fauna. Stuffed animals are collected in a pictorial composition, showing the life of wild animals. Exhibited here are also collections of insects and medicinal plants of the region.

The rich ethnographic collection is presented in the form of the traditional Belarusian hut. Here you can admire the traditional clothing made by the Belarusian skilled weavers, dressmakers, embroiderers. Also represented craftsmen: potters, wood carvers, blacksmiths.

The Museum holds a large exhibition work. In its halls regularly organizes exhibitions of works of masters of applied art, painting, graphics, sculpture. Here hold interesting meetings, literary evenings, holidays.
