Roman Catholic Church of St. Louis in krāslava is an outstanding representative of the architecture in the Baroque style. In 1755, the architect of Paraco from Italy has begun the construction of a stone Church. Construction of the Church (the Polish name of the Catholic Church) was the residence of the Bishop Infantiy, but since in 1772 Latgale joined Russia, this has not happened. The construction of the Church was completed in 1767. It was named in honor of French king Louis, who was proclaimed a Saint in 1297.

For the Church of St. Louis is characterized by the presence of crazy facade, crowning a high and wide gable. Grand double portal (entrance) stresses peculiar to the picturesque thoughts Baroque idea of triumph and apotheosis. In the Baroque era it was believed that evil is defeated victim of Calvary, and he experiences great joy in partaking of the fruits of salvation. At the entrance to the Church this feeling is even greater. This is facilitated by the high arch of the Central nave, columns and pilasters, encouraging visitors to look up that cause elevated mood and awaken the thought of the man's high destiny. This celebration can be seen in the altar, executed in a manner, which is characteristic of the great Italian masters of the Baroque Pozzo and Bernini. The altar is striking in its size, magnificence composition and generosity colored material.

In the semicircle of the arch you can see a canvas depicting a kneeling figure of the French king Louis IX, was created in 1884 by the great Polish painter Jan Matejko "St. Louis goes on a crusade". Behind the hidden fresco painting by Italian artist, Gastoldi that graced the original altar. It depicts king Louis IX in military armor, seated on a throne. In 1986, in the choirs of the Church a new organ, which replaced the burnt body in the great Patriotic war.

In the summer of 1941, when the retreating Red Army, local atheists set fire to the Church. Were destroyed the altar of St. Donatus and the body, but thanks to the efforts of members of the community, the fire in the chapel was dismantled, with the consequence that managed to save the main altar of the temple with a special altar painting.

The spacious courtyard of the Church is surrounded by majestic trees. The yard has long been turned into a Park in a quiet space where you can relax, reflect on his own, watching as the rays of the sun illuminate the quiet figure of the virgin.
