Filippov's Mansion Photo: The Mansion Filippova

One of the attractions of the city of Zhitomir is Filippov's mansion, which is located on the southern outskirts of the city, on the street B. Berdichevsky, 61/18.

Two-story house designed in the Baroque style, belonged to the Zhytomyr lawyer and notary Ivan Nikolaevich Filippov. Built in 1886, the house was originally made of wood. But in 1903, I. Filippov reconstructed it, turning it into a mansion.

In Soviet times, in connection with the change of government, the house changed hands many times. In this mansion housed in different institutions. Originally, the house was opened Soviet party school, where he was a teacher of Alexander Dovzhenko. During the civil war in 1920 there for a short time housed the headquarters of the first cavalry Budennogo. Later the house was open school - school No. 22. But most people visited him when in the building of a notary in the mid 70-ies was the Registrar. In Soviet times, the house had planned to build from the back, however, with the collapse of the USSR, the construction stopped.

Today in the building simultaneously accommodate three government organizations: the registry office, Department of culture and the Department of justice. Elegant manor seemed to have retained the charm of its previous owner. To bring the mansion in the proper form in the fall 2010 began renovating work.

Filippov's mansion is an architectural monument of local importance, which can be compared with the Consistory building, which now houses the Museum of local lore. Filippov's mansion and the Consistory were built in the same architectural style.
