Historical Museum in the town of Velingrad founded in 1952, it is located in the area of Kamenica, not far from the Church of the Holy Trinity. Three major Museum exhibitions: the exhibition "Painted eggs", an ethnographic exhibition "Friendly mountains" and a memorial exhibition dedicated to the Velay Peavoy.

In the city Museum hosts one of the biggest in the Balkans collections of painted Easter eggs. The collection reflects the characteristic of Chepinska edge tradition to decorate eggs with wax and handle. In addition Velingrad areas, presented here painted eggs not only from Bulgaria but also in Eastern and Central Europe. On the eve of the feast of the Passover every year the Museum organizes special exhibitions with a demonstration of the traditional technique of decorating eggs with wax, where you can also see artists at work.

"Vela Peeva" – a special exhibition tells the story of the Bulgarian guerrilla who in 1944 were killed as a participant in the resistance movement against the current government and propecai policy of Bulgaria during the war. In the exposition, attention is paid to the events which preceded the military action and the ensuing. The name itself is newly formed in 1948, the town of Velingrad is derived from the name of partisan Vela.

Ethnographic collection "Friendly mountains" is the costumes belonging to religious communities – Muslims, Christians, aluminum that inhabit Capinski edge.

In addition, the Museum presents exhibits that reinforce the glory of the city as a mineral Spa. Stone inscriptions and photographs show ancient mineral baths, Bulgaria, built in the mid eighteenth century and active until now.

The latest exhibition of the city Museum was the exhibition dedicated to Nicholas Gaurava – Opera singer that was born in Velingrad. After the death of legendary bass family had deposited in the Museum of personal belongings, photographs and documents of the contractor. Here you can see the costumes from performances with his participation and gramophone recording of the singer. This exhibition has evolved into a mobile – because of increased interest in the culture of Bulgaria and Gabrovo, in particular, the exhibition often appears in museums in Bulgaria and other countries.
