Of St. John the theologian Church is located in Torzhok, in Valadarski street, 78. Until 1606 on the site of the present Church of St. John the Evangelist existed monastery, who died in a fire during the Polish-Lithuanian intervention.

The current and standing in the town cemetery Church dedicated to St. John the Evangelist was erected in 1782 with funds donated by merchant I. I. Morozov. Empress Catherine II the Great while traveling through Torzhok took Morozova as a man, famous for his charity, and from Oxbow sent him an icon of the Holy Apostle John the theologian. This icon was placed in the iconostasis over the grave of a 15-year-old son of a merchant, the boy John.

In 1844, around the cemetery was built a stone wall with an arched exit. Funds for its construction was donated by a merchant Metelev.

Among those buried at the St. John the Evangelist cemetery there are many famous personalities: Colonel D. F. Beck is a hero fighting in the SHIPKA pass (1877-1878), P. J. Wolfe is the owner of Pavlovsk and friend of A. S. Pushkin, honorable citizens of Torzhok. Preserved some ancestral tombs St. from merchants: Morozov, Uvarov, Zvirevich, Vavoline, Mininig, Novosyolov and others.

Of St. John the theologian Church was abolished in 1939. Recreated and returned to the congregation in 1993 on the initiative of R. N. Malanova large number of local residents and managers of municipal enterprises. Currently is an active Church.
