Dolgorukovskaya obelisk is considered the first monument in Simferopol. It was built in 1842 and is situated at the intersection of Zhukovsky and Karl Liebknecht.
A monument dedicated to the victory of Russian troops over the Tatars and Turks in June 1771. At the same time signed the Treaty of accession of Crimea to Russia. The victory commander Dolgorukov received a sword decorated with diamonds, the order of St. Andrew and the title of "Crimean". On 5 April 1842 at the initiative grandson Dolgoruky, was held for the laying of the monument, which was designed to perpetuate the struggle of Russia for access to the Black sea.
The monument is a four-sided obelisk shape, mounted on a five-meter pedestal of grey Crimean diorite. On all sides of the obelisk is decorated with sculptural medallions. So, on the medallion on the South side depicted the coat of arms of Prince Dolgoruky, on the East locket with a picture of how the Prince Dolgoruky hands of the Russian laws of the conquered peoples of the Crimea. The medallion on the West side captures the battle for the Crimea.
The monument to the twice repaired and changed his appearance. In 20-ies of the last century medallions were disrupted, dismantled marble decorations, stolen one of the guns. Only in 1952 the obelisk partially restored. In 80-ies in honor of the anniversary of Simferopol decided to recover the medallions. Interestingly, they were found in the Leningrad Museum, then returned to its original location.
