A Museum telling about the history and causes of Vyatka traditional arts and crafts, was founded in November 1977 on the basis of the regional Museum in the city of Kirov. The Museum presents unique exhibits Vyatka artisans: Dymkovo toys, tatting, art processing Capa, carving and painting on wood, weaving from pine roots and the objects of everyday life of peasants and artisans of the early twentieth century.
The building occupied by the Museum, is a monument of architecture of Federal value of the 18th century and is considered one of the oldest in the city. Brick building in the provincial Baroque style on a high basement, included in the list of public buildings in the town of Khlynov (now Kirov) in 1771, was intended for the public-house and was one of the first brick buildings of civil architecture. On the ground floor, where the wine cellar, in our time, conducted master classes, and the entire first floor is an exhibition of objects of folk art of the 18th-20th century.
In our days in the Vyatka Museum of folk arts, located in the historic part of the city, in addition to thematic tours of the exhibition are the products of modern Vyatka craft enterprises, lectures about folk crafts from other regions of Russia. Near the Museum is another historical landmark of Vyatka – the architectural ensemble of the Uspensky monastery (17-19 centuries).
