The main square in Nizhny Novgorod, which unites all the most popular sights of the city, is located in the historic city center and is named in honor of the heroes of the people's militia 1612 - Kuzma Minin and Dmitry Pozharsky. The size is the most important part of the city and is used for celebrations and public cultural events.

The square of Minin and Pozharsky, located near the Kremlin Dmitrievsky tower has the form of a semicircle with a radius of about 130 meters. A form area associated with the merger of two previously existing space - the Annunciation (semicircular) and Seminar (trapezoidal). In 1917, the new (combined) the area became known as the Soviet, and in 1943 (after the installation of the monument to Minin) was renamed the square of Minin and Pozharsky. From the Central square of the city fade main historical street: Bolshaya Pokrovskaya (pedestrian), Pozharsky, Barbaric, Alekseevskaya, upper Volga embankment, Minin and Ulyanova street that previously had the name Tikhon (the Church in honor of St. Tikhon). The square offers a panoramic view.

The square is surrounded by historical and cultural buildings: the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin (16th century), shopping Mall "Alexis, the first building of the Medical Academy (1916), the Exhibition hall, the Palace of labour (1854) and the first and second housing Pedagogical University (19th century). In the center of the square the monument to Kuzma Minin, Chkalov staircase monument to Valery Chkalov, a bronze sculpture of a Policeman, many memorial plaques. Also on the square there is a beautiful musical fountain, trees, flower beds with flowers, a set of benches and decorative lights.
