Cathedral of Grasse Notre-Dame-du-Puy has a very modest exterior, but inside holds a treasure trove of paintings of outstanding artists Louis Brea, Peter Paul Rubens, Jean-honoré Fragonard.
Brush the first of them belongs to a triptych depicting saints Lambert and Onorata and Pope Clement. This work was produced in 1524. Paintings by Rubens, before ending in a Cathedral, has come a long way from the Church of Santa Croce in Gerusalemme in Rome, for which they were written. Then the paintings as donations were moved to the hospital of Grasse in 1827, and after they were placed in the Cathedral of Notre-Dame-du-Puy. The names of these paintings - "the Crowning with thorns", "Saint Helena" and "the exaltation of the cross." The work of Fragonard's name is "feet-Washing" and was written in 1754.
In addition to these cultural values are stored in the Church of the crucifixion, which had previously been installed in front of the Cathedral, and the organ, which in the mid-nineteenth century replaced the old instrument first half of the XIV century. Here lie the relics of St. Honorata Arlitsch brought to the Church in the late XVIII century. Holy Honorat lived in the IV-V century and was Bishop of Arles. He was buried in Arles chapel of the Holy Genesta, then in the fourteenth century, transferred the relics to the Abbey of Lérins Islands and then to grass.
The Cathedral itself was built in the XII century, the first written mention of it date back to the year 1154. For its construction were used the white stone from a small mountain village of La Turbie and the method applied, Lombard masonry.
After five centuries the Cathedral has undergone significant reconstruction, and the beginning of XVIII century during restoration work under the Cathedral was discovered a crypt with several graves. During the great French revolution, being a repository for grain, the Cathedral was partially burned down and only after that he was returned to the Church.
