Assumption Church Photo: Church of the assumption

Church of the assumption of the blessed virgin Mary is an Orthodox Church in Kondopoga, Karelia. It is located to the North of Petrozavodsk, at the very end of the Lollipop Bay of lake Onega. The Church was built in 1774, and on the right is the top of steepled wooden architecture.

The Church is located on the highest point of a small rocky Peninsula. But the uniqueness and the beauty of it is visible at once. When viewed from afar, it may seem that the temple is quite low, but when approaching the Church, then immediately the proportions of the building are getting longer and the Church tent faster and brighter on the horizon. The graceful silhouette of the Church staring up, which completes the stretching in all directions space. This type of picture is striking completeness lying on her details. It is in the height of this architectural construction and concluded based his idea, which was in memory and mourning for their fallen countrymen participating in the Kizhi uprising 1769-1771. The Church symbolizes faith in the future victory. Assumption Church, after its construction belonged to Prionezhsky school hip architecture.

The Church was never rebuilt, but had to be restored in 1927, in the 1950s, and also in 1999. In the summer of 1960, the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR decided to put the Church under the state protection.

It is known that near the Church stood two wooden buildings, but they disappeared during the Soviet times. They were: the belfry and the winter Church of the Nativity of the virgin. Over the years 1829-1831 near the temple was built on the money of parishioners wooden bell tower. In 1857 the winter Church. But in 1930 built the bell tower was demolished and the winter Church was removed in the 1960-ies.

With regard to the architectural features of the Church of the Dormition, the main bulk consists of two eights with an extension that is put to the bushel; there is a rectangular altar perupok and two hanging rings. Its altitude reaches 42 meters, which puts it in first place in the number of all surviving churches of the time.

Uspenska the Church carries a typical example wooden churches, built in Prionezhsky region. In the Foundation of the building has wooden cabins, huge heavy logs, but they have reached us so far. Despite its height, the building appears to be slim, light and beautiful. Two highly elevated porch attached symmetrically to the North and the South. They are inside the temple. Small canopy leads into a bright and spacious refectory, decorated with carved benches, and two supporting inspiring pillars that support longitudinal ceiling beams. Spacious refectory place yourself in a considerable number of parishioners. The Church is decorated with painted ceiling-the sky and the iconostasis. The iconostasis was made in the Baroque style. Celestial ceiling of the assumption Church is the only sample of the song "divine Liturgy" in this Church. On the Central medallion of the sky depicts the image of Christ.

It is not possible to move the Church in any other place or change a familiar environment, because then the visual shape will be destroyed by changing the image of the temple. The Church has no decorations and everything that will be able to divert attention from its integral image. Before, when there were no cities, travelers heading to the pier, saw this Church from far away, which was struck by its majestic dimensions.
