Gomel youth theatre opened its first season of 13 October 1992 by the premiere of "Travellers in night" S. Stratieva. It was founded by a native of Gomel Gregory Figlin – Moscow businessman, the Belarusian patriot and philanthropist. He wanted to give his hometown something significant and decided to give the theatre.

The original name was an Independent theater, artistic Director and Director – Yakov Natapov. In July 1995, there was a tragic event that nearly destroyed the young theatre – under mysterious circumstances in Moscow was killed by financing the work of the theatre Director Gregory Figlin. In 1998 at the request of the artists under guardianship and on the budget of the city theatre was taken by the mayor of Gomel Alexander S. Jacobson. In 1999, the theatre was renamed the Gomel city Youth theatre-Studio.

The performances of the Gomel youth theatre were awarded with prizes at the "Slavic theatrical meetings".
