In 1880, on the territory of the Simbirsk province, ten kilometers from the city of Syzran were opened railway bridge across the Volga river, built within four years. Major technical construction, length 1436 meters, more than twenty years was considered the largest in Europe and was ranked sixth in the world by length. The design of the structures studied Professor at the Institute of railway tracks of the city of St. Petersburg Nikolai Apollonovich Belelyubsky, and the construction was supervised by engineer V. M. Berezin.

The official opening date of the bridge (August 30, 1880.) was timed to the anniversary of the 25th anniversary of the reign of Emperor Alexander II, in honor of which was the original name of the bridge - Alexander. For many years the bridge title: Volzhsky, Red and Syzran, but the indigenous inhabitants of the old memory always called him Alexander.

In the nineteenth century, Alexander's bridge was the only link between the Central regions of Russia Railways with the TRANS-Volga region, Siberia and the Urals. As an important strategic target, in 1918, during the retreat of the whites, two spans of the bridge were destroyed. During the great Patriotic war, repeated attempts to blow up the bridge prevented a whole squadron of fighter-interceptors and several anti-aircraft batteries.

In 1957 on the bridge paved the second path, providing a continuous movement of trains routes and increasing the number of shipments. In August 2010 near the bridge was installed stele, dedicated to the 130th anniversary since the opening of the Alexander bridge. Nowadays the historical structure continues to perform its important function, being the attraction of the Samara region.
