Lutheran Cathedral, located in the northwestern part of Bergen, first mentioned in the beginning of XII century Church of St Olaf. It was on this spot stood the first stone Church.
During the reign of king håkon VI around it was built a Franciscan monastery. In 1537 the Church acquired the status of a Cathedral. After numerous fires in the middle of the XVI century, the Church was rebuilt. In the XVII century It was also updated after two fires have occurred here, just at this time, the Church spire was replaced by a turret.
During the Second Anglo-Dutch war in Cathedral wall stuck Cannonball, which is still located there. In 1880 by architect Christian Christie the interior in the Rococo style was altered, and the Cathedral has received back its medieval appearance.
In Bergen Cathedral are held periodically amazing concerts of organ music.
