The town Museum is in an old mansion in the centre of Villach. The Museum was founded in 1873 by the architect Carl Andreas. The Museum has repeatedly changed its location: in 1935, the Museum moved into the historic building on the square Citra-Josef. However, during the Second world war the building was hit by a bomb. Nevertheless, the collection is hardly affected, because she was taken out of the building of the Museum in advance. In 1960 the Museum was established at its present address on Vidangossy. About 50,000 exhibits housed in an old mansion on the area of 800 square meters.
