The Church of Misericordia is located in the Central square, close to the Sé Cathedral. This square is considered one of the largest and most beautiful in Portugal. In the square, in addition to historical monuments, there are also many small shops where you can buy the traditional Portuguese Souvenirs, and local restaurants where you can sample signature dishes which are famous in Viseu.

The construction of this monumental building was begun in 1775. The facade is made in the Rococo style, on the roof are two small belfry. Although the facade is made in the Rococo style, the interior of the Church is done in the neoclassical style, one characterized by a simplicity of form. Inside there are three magnificent wooden altar decorated with gold and adorned with decorative carved elements. The main altar of the temple is decorated with a sculpture of our lady of Mercy (Nossa Senhora da Misericordia). The virgin sits on a throne, and before her knelt the two asylum. In the chapel the altar of the NINETEENTH century also decorated with carved elements. The ceiling of the sacristy is made from wood and painted by a local artist josé Monteiro Nelas. On the walls of the temple are paintings of the NINETEENTH century with the image of our lady of sorrows (Nossa Senhora das-das Dores) and the last judgment. These paintings were painted by a local artist Jose Antonio Pereira.

To get into the Church, one must climb the ladder that leads to the portico in the Baroque style and the balcony. The Church walls were painted white, against which stand out granite columns. Attract the attention of the large Windows of the Church, which is decorated with decorative elements.
