Medina is the old part of the city in the Arab countries. In Marrakech it is located near the famous mosque of Ali Ben Youssef and is the busiest place in town. Medina has a very reliable protection of the 10 – meter walls 202 with guard towers and huge gates. So here you can walk almost safe. In the Medina is and many other interesting historical attractions, including the majestic Koutoubia mosque.

Famous for the old town and its Central square Djemaa El-Fna, in which different parties are numerous streets. Djemaa El Fna can be called the heart of the city. It looks like a big maze where life stops until very late. Without this magnificent square of Marrakech would be just an ordinary town.

Located near the Koutoubia mosque, Djemaa El-Fna square was built in the XI century a Spacious area for centuries is the hallmark of this Kingdom. But there was a time when this place had a very good reputation. From Arabic the name Jema El-Fna translates as "square of the dead" that's not weird at all. Where in XIX century was carried out executions of robbers. But even at that time the Jema El-Fna played a very important cultural and social role in the life of the city.

On the square you can see storytellers, street performances of musicians, acrobats, creators of henna, trainers of monkeys and even snake charmers. Also on the Jema El-Fna square has a huge number of shops where you can buy interesting Souvenirs, and many restaurants. It is from here and start all sightseeing excursions in Marrakech.
