The Palace Bizanti Photo: The Palace Bizanti

In the old town of Kotor is a lot of ancient palaces of the local nobility, which are monuments of medieval architecture. One of such monuments is the Palace Bizanti, which is located next to the Palace. The main facade of this building overlooks the square of Arms, the rear facade facing the street leading to the Cathedral and the square of Flour.

The Palace Bizanti was built in the 14th century and belonged to the famous family of Bizanti, lived in this Palace for centuries. Among the members of the bizanti family were prominent poets, priests, sailors, teachers.

Its original appearance, the Palace lost after several devastating earthquakes. And each time after the destruction of the Palace Bizanti restored, something changed, as in the facade of the building, and inside, something was added, was completed. Therefore, to uniquely determine the architecture of the building is simply impossible. The frame of the building, preserved to the present time, refers to 1641.

The building was badly damaged during the devastating earthquake in 1667, after which the owner Nikola Bizanti, restoring ruined Palace, built on the building's North wing and engraved on the facade of a family crest with a picture of a lion in jump, as well as their initials and date.

Currently, the Palace consists of two wings with an internal open patio, patio staircase leading to the floors – this composition is typical for the Renaissance. Choose stairs, Windows, doors, and well inside the courtyard, richly decorated and adorned with the family coat of arms and crown, can be attributed to the Baroque.
