Art Museum of South Karelia, located in the former artillery barracks, built in 1798, was opened after restoration in the fall of 1965.

The building is in neoclassical style with round arches in perfect harmony with display in it the known works of the famous Finnish artists and other artists of the mid-nineteenth century to the present. Special attention is given to the exposition, devoted to contemporary art in South-Eastern Finland, which received a rapid development in the 60-ies of the last century. Every year, each season, Museum exhibitions are updated. It also exhibited paintings and graphic works by young Finnish artists.
