The Museum of archaeology of pre-Columbian era Rafael Larco Herrera, founded in 1926, is located in the former Royal mansion of the XVIII century, built on the Foundation of the pyramid of the VII century and surrounded by a flowered garden. The Museum houses one of the richest collections of gold and silver, a collection of metalwork, ceramics and textiles of Ancient Peru and the famous erotic archaeological collection.

The Museum of archaeology of pre-Columbian era is one of the few museums in the world where visitors are allowed to enter the storage area of its 45 000 archaeological artifacts, they are all cataloged and classified by topic and time. In thematic halls of the Museum you can see the carefully planned exhibition of ceramic products, learn about the stages of their production in pre-Columbian times, to consider the tools, types of kaolin used for making and decorating the vases colors, tools and molds, unfired pottery found in the graves.

In the hall of the "Great culture" visitors can get a complete picture of the culture of the tribes that existed in pre-Columbian Peru from 7000 BC until the Spanish conquest in the XVI century. This hall is divided into four areas: North coast, Center, South and Mountain region.

In "Erotic gallery" archaeological objects exhibited, prepared by Rafael Larco Hoyle in the 60-ies of XX century in the study of sexual performances in Peruvian pre-Columbian art. Updated in November 2002, this exhibition of erotic ceramics are presented with comments.

In the hall of Gold and jewellery exhibits the attributes of leaders and rulers of the Incas that accompanied them in life and were buried with the bodies. Jewelry was made not only of gold and silver, and with precious stones such as lapis lazuli, turquoise, quartz and amethyst. At the stands you can see the earrings, jewelry for nose, breast ornaments, ornaments for the head, ritual vases, masks, containers and miniature objects, confirming the high artistic skill of the ancient jewelers.
