Medina of Sfax is located in the heart of the city and surrounded by high jagged stone walls, built in the mid-tenth century. Founded in IX century by Sultan Ahmed Ibn El Aghlab, this area (one of the few medieval cities of Tunisia has managed to avoid global reconstructions and is preserved in almost original form. In the middle of the Medina is a Large mosque built in the IX century. In the seventeenth century Palace is a Museum of popular traditions and arts Dar Jellouli in which there is an interesting permanent exhibition. Its exhibits — furniture, clothes, household items, incense, ancient weapons and valuable manuscripts. On the upper floors of the Museum is the collection of the national women's garments.
