Russia's first Museum of the World ocean is located on the waterfront of Peter the Great in Kaliningrad. A unique Museum of its kind, formed in April 1990, today has mostly Fund about 55 thousand units and covers an area of more than ten thousand square meters.

The exposition of the Museum of the World ocean is devoted to hydrology and Geology of the oceans, marine flora and fauna, navigation, and also has a valid environmental station, a scientific library. In addition to the main building of the Museum exposition is placed in the courts: "Cosmonaut Viktor Patsayev", "Vityaz" (performed 65 scientific expeditions in the World's oceans), the submarine B-413, docked at the Museum pier. The branches of the Museum are housed in an old harbour warehouse buildings, Friedrichsburg the gate, in the building of the Belgian Consulate and in the King's gate. The most popular exhibits of the Museum are: a five-metre skeleton of a sperm whale, found in the coastal zone of the Vistula spit, and which part of the exhibition "World of the ocean. Touch, archaeological find "the Ship of the 19th century," underwater vehicles "Pisis-7" and "Tethys", the yacht 1950 "Volksbad", boat barque "Kruzenshtern", hydrographic boat, etc.of special value in the history of exploration and development of the World ocean.

Interesting collection of shells of marine molluscs and corals are presented in the great hall of the Museum. In addition to geological and paleontological samples, you can clearly see the inhabitants of different parts of the World ocean. Also in the Museum store personal belongings and materials related to the activities of researchers and scientists such as V. G. Kort, M. B. maple, p. P. Shirshov, P. L. Bezrukov, V. P. Zenkovich, and many others. Among the most valuable exhibits are the archives of scientists-oceanographers and Soviet cosmonauts (including A. A. Leonov).

The Museum is the first and the oldest surviving bascule railway bridge Kaliningrad, connecting in 1865 areas of the suburb and Laak in königsberg over the river Pregel. Today the bridge is the property of the Kaliningrad railway.
