City gate, once separating the city from its outskirts and is part of the system of fortifications, called Green. This is a high tower, on top of which is an observation platform where you can see not only Pardubice, but also, for example, the castle kunětická Hora, located a few kilometers from the city. Just a few metres from the Green gate is the main square of Pardubice, which are concentrated around all the main attractions.

Tower Green gate was rebuilt in the XVI century from the older buildings, dated 1330-1340 years. She is still considered the tallest building in Pardubice. Unfortunately, the other fortifications of the city were not preserved, but looking at this tower, we can draw conclusions about the strength of the city walls.

Actually, the Green gate is not one building. The portal, which lets in the city, and tower are located just nearby.

The Green facade of the gate is decorated in the Renaissance style and decorated with hand-made bas-relief of authorship by mikoláš aleš. This commemorative panel, you can see several scenes from the life of the first owners of the city – lords of Pardubice.

In the interior of the tower has an exhibition devoted to the history of this building and several other city buildings. For example, here you can see the layout of the temple of St. Bartholomew. Among other exhibits worth noting the old documents, maps, photographs and paintings.

Once immediately after the Green gate there was a deep ditch, over which was thrown a bridge. The moat was filled, and the bridge was removed, so now nothing reminds of those times. The gates are located in the middle of the street, but don't seem to be superfluous, since it can fit into the historic character of the city.
