The main square of the Moravian town of třebíč is called the Charles. It is a bit like Wenceslas square in Prague. Maybe its elongated shape, maybe the fact that it is allowed to drive the cars. Charles square, of course, not as long as Wenceslas. Its length is 400 meters, but it is still spacious enough and of interest to tourists.

Charles square was founded in the XIV century on the site of the meadows. Increasing the city of Třebíč was necessary for the market, where they could deploy spontaneous trade. In those days, the citizens insisted on the creation of a large area, which would not only without problems fit traders, but there is a place for an evening promenade. Until the XIX century it was decorated with fountains, which were demolished for some reason. According to historians, every fountain crowned by the figure of a Saint. Nowadays we can see instead of a fountain monument to Cyril and Methodius. It was erected in the late nineteenth century only after the city raised the required amount for the sculptor and builders. The fundraiser lasted for several decades.

Karlsplatz has many amazing buildings. Due to frequent fires of Renaissance buildings here are almost lost. Among the most interesting homes you can mark and Painted Black, which are similar to each other, due to its decor. Their facades are decorated in the technique of sgraffito. They can be seen for a long time, as they are decorated with images of entire genre scenes.

Over the Eastern part of the square you can see the tower of the main temple of the city – the Church of St. Martin.
