In the outskirts of Dalaman, close to the place where the Mediterranean sea meets the famous river Dalyan, Köyceğiz is a town. People began to settle in these places with unique beauty, even tens of thousands of years ago. One of the earliest settlements, which was discovered in the vicinity of the city, dates back to 3400 BC In this land lived and left their traces, the Assyrians, the Persians, the Greeks, the Dorians, Romans, Ottomans.

Modern Köyceğiz developed already during the Ottoman Empire. In many ways he is not like other tourist centers. Here throughout the year virtually unchanged, the number of the population. That's probably why the Koycegiz land is extremely fertile and suitable for use in agriculture. Plants get moisture directly from the soil and not fade even in summer on the hottest days. The valley is surrounded by mountains covered with amber and pine trees. Similar woods, where grow such trees, there is no other place.

Despite its uncomplicated appearance, cafes and taverns offer a variety of snacks and delicious meals of all kinds of fish, meat and poultry. The local prices are much more attractive than in other tourist centres. It can be noted the fact that in the local schools there is no separation between "tourists" and local clients.

In the city there is a beautiful deep lake Köycegiz, widely known for natural hot springs and mud baths. The lake narrows into a channel leading to the river Dalyan, which, in turn, flows into the Mediterranean sea. It is believed that the sandy beach in the area one of the most beautiful in Turkey. In order not to confuse the sea to the lake, should be guided by the reeds. It only grows in the lake.

The area occupied by the lake and the Dalyan channel, is about 6300 hectares. At the end of the channel there is a small lagoon filled with a mixture of salt and fresh water. In these places mullet lake lays their eggs.

The beach is a breeding ground for sea turtles Caretta Caretta. Nestled in the reeds by the river meanders, flows into the sea, skirting the Lydian rock tombs of the IV century BC

Centuries ago, the valley was covered with silt and separated the lake from the sea, but still they are connected. Delta lake was formed by the alluvia of the rivers Yuvarlak and Us-Us. The walk around the lake with a camera will give you a lot of pleasant experiences and great photos in the smooth surface of the water reflected the cliffs and forests, a rare combination of amber and pine trees. Even if you are not interested in such activities, then going on the boat for an evening walk, you will definitely get great pleasure from the magnificent starry sky, and fishing is highly advised to grab the gear and fishing rods. The lake is very supportive of the fishermen, and hence hard to leave without a catch.

Near the lake is a hot spring mosque. The temperature of the water in it is about forty degrees. This is one of the most famous Spa resorts: there is a pond with mud, which need to rinse after 45 minutes in the pool with thermal water.
