Mogilev city hall – rebuilt in our days, a copy of the town hall, which once adorned the city of Mogilev, was his pride and a symbol of independence.

In 1577 Mogilev received the Magdeburg law – a set of freedoms and benefits that was received by the city, capable of maintaining law and order on their own. Cities receive significant tax benefits, the right to hold court and decide intra-urban economic problems independently. After a year on the Central square of Mogilev grew first city hall. She was built of wood and, as a result, repeatedly burnt to the ground.

Stone tower of the town hall was built a long and thoroughly. Construction began in 1679. By 1681 there were built the first two floors. In 1686 the gang under the leadership of the wizard of FEZ has built a high tower (26 meters) that it could not withstand its own weight and collapsed. A new tower is durable and sturdy instructed to build the master Ignat. It was built in 1692 and stood until 1957. The tower was octagonal, five-tiered, closed balcony with a metal grate and dome. Its height was 46 meters. Town hall clock was installed.

At the town hall were concentrated all the most important points (for example: here were the courts, in the basement was a prison. Here were kept the city Treasury, was the seat of the magistrate.

Over time, the town hall was repeatedly rebuilt and repaired, acquiring more modern and luxurious look. In 1780, with its observation deck of the city admiring the monarchs of the two European powers: the Russian Empress Katherine II and the Emperor of Austria Franz Joseph II.

During the great Patriotic war the town hall in Mogilev was badly damaged, but it was decided to restore. There was even drafted by a special Commission, developed reconstruction plans. In 1957 the hall was suddenly blown up. Who took this decision and why – remains unknown.

Until 1992 in Mogilev was the town hall, but the townspeople remembered the pride of their city and wanted to recreate the town hall. In 1992 he was solemnly laid the first stone. However, it took many years to carefully plan the construction so that the tower was a replica of the old town hall. In the construction used almost the same technology as in the past. 18 July 2008 the city was awakened by the striking of the clock on the tower recreated the town hall. Now in Mogilev town hall houses the Museum of the city. However, the city authorities decided to hold in the town hall receptions and meetings. This is one of the few existing town hall. Tourists can visit these halls when they are free.
