The main symbol of stramberk is the imposing castle, built in the form of a tower, which the local inhabitants called the Pipe. Starý jičín castle can be seen from any point of the city, it immediately attracts attention and impresses with its appearance.

On the establishment of the castle there is a legend, confirming the presence in these places of the knights Templar. They say that in the beginning of XIV century the castle was founded by the Templars, finding an impregnable rock, which is part of the Beskidy mountains. But modern historians doubt this story and believe that the founders of the castle can be considered unknown Moravian aristocrats or gentlemen of Benesova. The castle was built with security mission: it was built on the border of the Moravian Principality. At the foot of the castle soon there was a small village, eventually turned into a city.
