In the town of Uglich on the assumption of the square stands the famous Orthodox Church consecrated in the name of Kazan Icon of the mother, which is the most notable building in the square. It is believed that the bell tower of this temple is the tallest in the city.

Historically situated near the temple place is a shopping area, and just then there were three: Forest, hay and Bread. The first Church was the Church consecrated in the name of St. George. It is known that in the early 17th century in the square there was a temple of the Holy Icon of the mother with chapels Michael Malein and St. George the Martyr. The Church stood until the beginning of the time of Troubles, and then he was burned.

After the temple was lost and in its place were built stalls, although the events did not happen as intended. During this period, the city came to the elder Barlaam, who found it necessary to build in Uglich great Kazan Church. After the decision in 1638 he asked permission from Mikhail Fedorovich and, after a short period of time, it gets.

Some time later, the city was built a new wooden Church. As for the thrones, in addition to the main Kazan throne, were built three more: nun Eudocia, St. George, and the man of God Alexis – all thrones was dedicated to the memory of the Royal family and former Church. In found annalistic sources reported that in the dedication of thrones has eponymous saints not only king, but also his wife and son. We can assume that this fact is caused not only an expression of Orthodox feelings, but also extreme closeness of the elder Barlaam to the Royal family.

The existence of the new Church was not to last very long. At the end of 1641 Barlaam died, and three years after his death, the Church burned down. Presumably, almost immediately there was built a new Church, what narrate Scribe books 1674-1676. The newly-built temple was wooden and was trehlitrovuyu Church, has a pair of side chapels. In this form of the Orthodox stood for nearly a hundred years.

In the 1870s, the wooden building was replaced by a stone one. The Church built a two-story, and its style is defined as Baroque. The temple is particularly high and rising. The structure of each floor is the altar, the refectory room, the temple and the porch. From the outside, the facades are decorated with the help of protruding blades, casings with semi-circular top and elegant patterned cornices. The completion of the Church is made in the form of light and surprisingly graceful octagonal structure with a cupola. On the first floor of the building there is a Church consecrated in honor of the presentation of the Lord.

New fire overtook the Church in 1793, when he was again burned down together with the upper floor and the bell tower. Recovery was slow, while the bell tower was completely dismantled. On the site of the former built a new bell tower, built in the period of honey 1807 and 1814 years, only this time in a classic style. The Church merged with a new bell tower in a single architectural ensemble. Three-tier belfry was decorated with columns, graceful archways and pediments. The wedding took place in the form of the spire, though was later added and cupola.

Literally a hundred years ago the Church was notable for the incredible beauty of the interior decoration, because it was decorated sanctuary carved iconostasis, made after the terrible fire. The thread is gilded, and the background is painted in blue color. The Royal gates are characterized by the depiction of the Annunciation and the last Supper, while above them richly emblazoned made canopy. Available paintings on the walls done in a classical style by the hands of an artist from County Hantuchova S. A. Nenasheva.

Main St. landmark of the temple became the temple, which was donated by elder Barlaam. For many years, pilgrims from other cities come to the Shrine to pay homage and ask for health. It is known that the Church of the Kazan icon of the mother of God has always been considered besplatnoe and was on the content of urban society and donations.
