Cathedral of St. George is one of Orthodox monuments in the city of Vladikavkaz. The history of the Cathedral began in 1991 when the local authorities have decided to provide in perpetuity for the land for the construction of an Orthodox Church.

The construction of the four pillars of this temple was started in October 1996 on the territory previously occupied by the cemetery, between two streets - Volgograd and Barbashova. The construction of the Cathedral lasted until 2003, while finishing work continues to this day. The construction of the four pillars of the Church lasted so long, because the funds for its construction were taken only from charitable donations. The author of the project was A. Nanav.

The Cathedral is a remarkably beautiful five-domed cross-shaped temple. The greatness of this building adds belfry. In the lower floor of the Cathedral is an active Church where the ceremonies of baptism.

The Church houses the relics of Saint George. This greatest Christian relic was donated to the Cathedral in October 2010, his Beatitude Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and all Africa Theodore II.
