Guimarães is the cradle of Portugal. The Central part of the city, which is home to many historical monuments, well-preserved to our times, and attracts tourists and locals.
One of the most outstanding monuments of the city is the guimarães castle, built in the X century. The founder of the castle is don Mumadona Dias, who ordered to build a castle on top to protect she founded the monastery from the invasion of Muslims and Normans.
Earlier in place of guimarães was a small village of Weimaraners.
