Visit to the national Museum of sculpture will surely leave a lasting impression on every visitor.

The Museum was originally created as the Museum of fine arts. This is one of the oldest museums of Spain - it was opened in 1842. In 1933, the Museum was renamed the national Museum of sculpture. In July 2008, the Museum was renamed the National Museum of San Gregorio, and in 2011 he returned to his former name, which knows him now.

The Museum houses a vast collection of sculptures, ranging from 13 and ending with the 19th century. In total, there are currently just over a thousand sculptures. It also displays a collection of paintings, numbering about 1226 paintings, many of which can be called truly priceless.

In the Museum displays sculptures of stone, wood, metal and other materials. Most of the sculptures relates to religious issues. There is a great altars and altarpiece, statues of saints and the whole sculptural composition depicting biblical scenes.

Today the Museum collections are housed in several buildings, which can without exaggeration be called a true work of art. The College of St. George, built between 1488 and 1496 for years, the facade of which in the styles of Elizabethan Gothic and Renaissance is a masterpiece of architecture. This two magnificent mansion: the Vilhena Palace and the Casa del Sol and the Church of San Benito El Viejo, built in the 16th century.

Today, the national sculpture Museum is one of the most original museums in Europe. Every year it is visited by thousands of tourists coming from different corners of our planet.
