Photo: St. Charles's Church
Huge Baroque Church of SV. Charles was built in the XVIII century by order of Emperor Charles VI in gratitude for deliverance from the plague. The Church was consecrated in honor of St. Charles Borromeo, patron and protector against the plague. Giant neoclassical dome and the portico is framed by two towers resembling minarets, and arches in the Eastern style. The relief of the pediment tells of the suffering of the citizens of Vienna during the plague.
Inside most striking is the beautiful dome frescoes, the main and side altars, painted by the most famous artists of the time – Martino Altomonte, Daniel Brink and Sebastian Ricci.
