Palacio de Goines is one of the most famous buildings in the city of Arequipa and is located at the intersection of La Merced and the streets of the Old Palace.
The history of the Palace of Goyanes begins in 1558, when the owner of the land, Martin de Almazan, decided to build a one-storey house with an internal courtyard and two arches. In 1582 and 1600, the city of Arequipa was subjected to strong earthquakes, then Andres Herrera-and-Castilla, owner of this building, hired a master Mason Gaspar Baez for the reconstruction of destroyed homes. The master was constructed in 1602 almost new home. In 1734, the mansion built by Gaspar Baez, was slightly modified and expanded. However, this house bought for his family one of the largest landowners Arequipa Juan Kristomo de Gouines-and-Aguerrevere severely damaged by another earthquake in 1782.
Later the building was taken to one of his four sons - Jose-Sebastian, Bishop of Arequipa and the Archbishop of Lima, who instructs to restore the family mansion of the famous architect Lucas Poblete in 1837. In 1840 the family mansion restoration was completed.
Bishop Goines lived in this house until 1859, when he became Archbishop of Lima and Primate of Peru. At this time, the mansion has become one of the most important residences of the city. This two-storey building with inner courtyards, with columns on the facade and the entrance to the lobby "the height necessary for the French knight in armor with a spear in an upright position". On its roof is a balcony with wrought iron railings and panoramic Outlook, accessed by a beautiful spiral staircase, built of hewn stone. These stairs you can also climb to the second floor of the building where the balcony doors and Windows in the style of the colonial era. In the main courtyard of the mansion there is a superb fountain, made of stone.
The building consists of large spacious rooms with vaulted, the walls of which you can see the art paintings of the Cuzco school, colonial era, the Windows of the building to protect the wrought-iron lattice with amazing ornaments.
In the early twentieth century Palace Goyanes was handed over to the Central reserve Bank of Peru, who had a full reconstruction of the building in 1970. This decision ensured the preservation of the famous house, which is part of the historical heritage of Arequipa. In 2000, the Palace of Goines was inscribed on the world heritage list of UNESCO.
