Museum of art in Hiroshima was opened on 3 November 1978. In the role of founder of the Museum was made by the Bank of Hiroshima, the reason for opening this cultural institution has become the first centenary of the financial institution. The Bank of Hiroshima announced created Museum a symbol of peace and provided money for the construction of buildings and acquisition of paintings that formed the basis of the Museum's collection.

The Museum was built in the Central Park of Hiroshima. Its complex includes the main building in the form of a one-story rotunda and a few extra buildings in which are located showrooms. All buildings of the Museum are connected by underground passages. On his site you will also find a lecture hall, a café and a gift shop.

The collection of the Museum are the paintings of XIX-XX centuries, which are authored by famous French artists from different fields of painting, and Japanese masters. It is noteworthy that in the selection of paintings one can see the influence of the European school of painting in Japanese, and Vice versa – the influence of Japanese painting traditions in French maestros.

The earliest works in the Museum collection from the first half and middle of the XIX century and were painted by eugène Delacroix, Jean-Francois millet, Gustave Courbet and eugène burden. These and other authors represent the romantic, the realistic, some of them are considered the forerunners of impressionism.

Impressionism is represented here by the works of Edouard Manet, Alfred Sisley, Edgar Degas, Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir and other famous painters of this school. In addition, the Museum has to offer its visitors the paintings of Paul cézanne, Vincent van Gogh, Paul Gauguin, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, pointillist work. European art in the Museum are Edvard Munch, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, painters of the "Paris school".

From Japanese authors, the Museum has works Tsuguharu Fujita, known in Europe under the name of Leonard, Fujita and Shotaro of Koyama, Seiki Kuroda and other painters, who lived mainly in the twentieth century.
