National Park Kaeng krachan is Thailand's largest, most he deserved polarity due to the famous resort of Hua hin, located nearby. Officially Kaeng krachan was registered on 12 June 1981 and became the 28th national Park in Thailand. Initially, its area was 2478 sq km, but it was expanded on December 27, 1984 after its inclusion in the area of border region between the provinces of Phetchaburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan.

Basically, the Park consists of tropical rainforest on the slopes of the mountain range of Tenasserim, the height of the highest peak of which is 1200 meters. On the territory of the Kaeng krachan runs two rivers: pran Buri and Phetchaburi. The dam, built in 1996 on the Eastern border of the national Park, created a lake with an area of 46, 5 sq. km.

In the forest of Kaeng krachan grows huge collection of a variety of trees, including oaks, chestnuts, maples, and even palm trees. It is home to 57 species of mammals, including Gibbons, tigers and deer, and more than 400 species of tropical birds.

Earlier in the national Park is home to many wild elephants, but their numbers so far are greatly reduced. Local authorities are unable to control poaching activity, according to some reports they are involved in the illicit trade of body parts of animals.
