In the Eastern part of the Greek island of Chios in a wonderfully scenic location set amongst lush gardens, olive and almond groves lies the small coastal town of Vrontados. It is located about 5 km North of the administrative center of the island of Chios town (or Chora) and is considered its suburbs.

The settlement existed here from ancient times, although the exact date of its Foundation is not known for sure. According to one version, was born here or at least long lived the famous Greek sings, the legendary author of "the Iliad" and "Odyssey" - Homer. Today one of the main attractions of Vrontados is the so-called "stone of Homer, where, according to legend, the poet taught his disciples.

Since ancient times, Vrontados is famous for strong Maritime tradition and is the birthplace of many famous shipowners. However, in our days the majority of the population of Vrontados, one way or another, connected with the sea. It is not surprising that the symbol of the city is located on the beach (directly opposite the town Hall) the statue of the "Unknown sailor", performed by the famous Greek sculptor Apartisan.

Extensive knowledge and valuable experience of the sailors of Vrontados always been of great interest. According to legend, the famous Spanish Explorer Christopher Columbus before his legendary expedition to America specially visited the Vrontados with the purpose of obtaining information from experienced local sailors and study nautical charts compiled.

Today Vrontados is very cozy and beautiful city with a beautiful promenade, old windmills, narrow streets and is literally blending into the green charming houses. Famous Vrontados and its magnificent temples, including individual attention, the Cathedral of Saint George, the Church of Panagia Ariyani, yard which is lined with pebble mosaics, and the Church of St. Mark. Not less interesting is the Church of St. Nicholas, of Panagia evaggelistria, the Prophet Elijah, etc.

Well-developed tourist infrastructure, a lot of interesting places and activities and, of course, the excellent beaches of Vrontados and its environs every year attract more and more tourists.
