The garden city of Mariupol was founded in the year 63 of the 19th century on a high hill. The choice fell on this place because there grew many fruit trees. In its development, the Park has gone through two main stages. The first stage is the arbor, the second - the creation of a large landscaped parkland.

In the 89 year of the 19th century at the request of the city Duma famous Mariupol gardener and philanthropist George G. Psalty in the garden was a complete and radical redevelopment. In 1910, after the device of the water system of the Park has got a fountain. City garden was opened to "rest and various amusements dear Mariupol of the public", as reported at the time of the announcements posted on the streets.

At various times, the garden was visited by A. I. Kuindzhi and A. S. Serafimovich, K. F. Bogaevsky and A. S. Novikov-Priboi. And the Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolaevich, who visited Mariupol in 1872, in the city garden was even planted his own two trees.

On the site of the gardens there are several monuments to soldiers killed in the Civil and great Patriotic war.
