Lake Kasiri-Macho located at an altitude of 4939 m above sea level on the slopes of the volcano Cakepie of Jungala (5025 m), on the border of Chile and Bolivia, the region of Arica de parinacota volcano. This is the area with very high seismicity: on average, once in 50 years there is an earthquake (on the Richter scale - up to 7 points).

The road to the lake is through the village of Caquena, province of Tarapaca. Its surroundings are full of beautiful landscapes and archaeological sites. In the hamlet of a few houses in which live the descendants of the Quechua Indians. Quechua is descended from the Incas, who lived until the XVI century in the foothills of the plateau from Caquena to parinacota volcano and putre. Local residents, like their ancestors, grow lamas. They have tamed these animals to move through numerous dangerous mountain trails. Llamas do not require special care, because they feed on in the way of pasture forage and the local population, the dung of llamas as fertilizer and fuel for fires, and spin wool.

Today in Chile there are about 6,000 people belonging to the ethnic group of Quechua Indians, mostly they are concentrated in the regions of Arica de parinacota volcano and Tarapaca.

You can also visit the small Church of Pueblo de Cacouna, built in the XVII century stone covered with clay and covered with a thatched roof.

On the way to the lake you need to go through wetlands, which graze Alpaca and llama, and in the distance you can walk Nandu. You can also see the Condor and Andean geese.
