Located on the eponymous Peninsula, Cesme is one of the most visited cities in Turkey. Bordering this Peninsula waves of the Aegean sea. The springs discovered here in XVIII – XIX centuries, gave the city its name, as the Turkish word "Cesme" is translated into the Russian language: "source", "the fountain".

The main attraction is the Genoese fortress, towering majestically over the city. The purpose of its construction was to protect from pirates of the nearby coast. She was built in the XIV century and restored in the XVI century, when the country was ruled by Sultan Bayezid the Second. But one piece stood it for long. A century later, during the war with the Venetian Republic, as a result of the assault she was completely destroyed.

And in the XVIII century the castle was rebuilt. Its exclusively military purpose has led to the fact that it became the location for a long time, until 1833, a military garrison. In addition, she served as the residence of the knights of St. John of Jerusalem. And already in the XX century, the authorities decided to open in the North tower Archaeological Museum.

Castle in Cesme is famous for the fact that in his time it was a place of refuge supporters famous pirate of Hayreddin Barbarossa, who, despite his "criminal" past, later rose to the rank of Admiral of the fleet of Turkey.

The special beauty of the fortress give six majestic towers with the surrounding fortress moat.

Every year, in July, the fortress becomes an outdoor theatre, which will open its doors to the participants of the International Music festival.
