Hoshiv monastery of Basilian monks is a famous place of pilgrimage for believers of the Greek Catholics from various countries. The first convent near Goseva referred to in 1509. Originally hoshiv monastery was located in the tract Red Dilok. In the XVII century the monastery was burned by the Tatars and rebuilt already Jasna Gora, where he is now.
The original building of the monastery was made of wood. In 1835-1842, it was demolished and built of stone. The monastery occurred during the domination of Metropolitan A. Sheptytsky. Before the onset of the First world war the monastery was among the largest spiritual centers in Galicia. In 1939, the Soviet authorities began to persecute the Greek Catholic monks and therefore tried to close the monastery. No matter what, he lasted until the 1950-th years, after which he was eliminated completely. In the premises of the monastery housed an orphanage, later army depot, and after – recreation.
In the early 1990s, the monastery was revived with the support of the faithful. Their donations were renovated premises of the monastery and the Church, eliminated all traces of here social structures. With the help of German restorers was restored five large canvases of the period between the eighteenth century and created 15 new. In Hoshiv monastery installed electronic bells, which are the only in Ukraine.
The main Shrine of the monastery is the miraculous icon of our lady of Hoshiv XVIII century (the Shrine is a copy of the Czestochowa icon of the Mother of God). It is often referred to as the "Queen of the Carpathians". August 28, 2009 Pope Benedict XVI solemnly crowned the icon Hoshiv of the Mother of God.
