Kassiopi Photo: Kassiopi

Kassiopi is a small resort village located on the North East coast of Corfu, 36 km from the capital, opposite the Albanian coast. This place is very popular among tourists from the UK and Italy, attracted by the crystal clear Ionian sea and great beaches. Nearby is also a lot of picturesque deserted coves.

The ancient village of Kassiopi was founded in the 3rd century BC during the reign of Pyrrhus (king of Epirus, a talented commander) during the war with Rome. It was a typical Greek fishing village and port. In 230 BC the island was conquered by the Romans who built a Fort. In this fortress, according to local legend, was the Emperor Nero who came to the temple of Zeus. From Roman structures with time nothing left but the Foundation, the Byzantines built their fortification. Later, the fortress was well fortified by the Venetians in the 16th century has survived the siege of the Turkish invaders. The remains of the ancient castle today are visible from the coastal road, the envelope of the Cape. Visiting ancient ruins, you can enjoy beautiful panoramic views from the top of the fortress.

Today Kassiopi is a picturesque fishing village with a population of about 1200 people and good infrastructure. Here there are supermarkets, post office, hospital, Bank, various shops and souvenir shops, public swimming pools (including children's), and more. In the centre of the village near the school is a great children's Playground.

In the small harbour you can rent a boat and take a short boat trip to any point of the island.

In Kassiopi many cafes, bars and restaurants, varied menu which will delight visitors. Here you can enjoy Mexican, Chinese, Italian and of course traditional Greek cuisine. Very lively and nightlife Kassiopi.
